SAT : Scholastic Assessment Test & CEM

What is the SAT ?

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States since 1926.

The SAT is wholly owned, developed, and published by the College Board, a private, not-for-profit organization in the United States.

The SAT contains 4 sections in 3 hours (plus 50 minutes if taking optional Essay):

  • Reading
  • Writing & Language
  • Math (No Calculator & Calculator Sections)
  • Essay (Optional)

The SAT format includes 154 multiple-choice questions and 1 optional essay.

 

SAT : the math section

In the SAT Math section (sections 3 & 4):

  • 58 multiple–choice questions (broken up into a 20-question No-Calculator section and a 38-question Calculator-allowed section)
  • 80 minutes (25 minutes for the No-Calculator section; 55 minutes for the Calculator-allowed section)
  • Algebra I and II, geometry, and some trigonometry
