L'intérêt pour les sommes de carrés remonte à l’Antiquité : on trouve de telles sommes dans des tablettes en cunéiforme du début du 2e millénaire avant notre ère et deux propositions dans les Éléments d'Euclide expliquent comment construire des carrés parfaits dont la somme ou la différence forment encore des carrés parfaits, ou au contraire comment ne pas obtenir un carré en sommant deux carrés.

 

Triplets pythagoriciens


En arithmétique, un triplet pythagoricien ou triplet de Pythagore est un triplet (a, b, c) d'entiers naturels non nuls vérifiant la relation de Pythagore : $$\displaystyle a^{2}+b^{2}=c^{2}$$
Les triplets pythagoriciens les plus connus sont (3, 4, 5) et (5, 12, 13) mais l'on a aussi :

$$2022^2=1728^2+1050^2$$

Donc (1050, 1728, 2022) est un triplet pythagoricien.
